Google Pixel Watch 2 Set to Debut with Enhanced SoC, Battery, and Advanced Features

August 19, 2023

Google is gearing up to unveil the highly anticipated Google Pixel Watch 2, a successor to the previously launched Google Pixel Watch in October 2022. The original model boasted a 1.2-inch AMOLED touch display protected by robust 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5, driven by an Exynos 9110 SoC, and offered a claimed battery life of up to 24 hours. However, all eyes are now on the impending Pixel Watch 2, expected to deliver a marked improvement in processing power and battery capacity.

Rumors surrounding the forthcoming Pixel Watch 2 have been buzzing, with a recent spotting on the Google Play Console intensifying the anticipation. Insights gleaned from the listing have illuminated key specifications about this smart wearable, including details about its processor, display, and software.

According to a detailed report from 9to5Google, the Pixel Watch 2 is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm SW5100 SoC, reputedly the Snapdragon W5 chipset and not the W5+ variant. Impressively, this chipset is built on the same 4nm processor technology as numerous smartphone chips from 2021 and 2022, promising a significant enhancement in efficiency over its predecessor. Notably, the Snapdragon W5 is projected to support energy-efficient states like Deep Sleep and Hibernation, effectively elongating the battery life of the Pixel Watch 2.

Insiders suggest that the Pixel Watch 2 is set to operate on Android 13-based Wear OS 4, as indicated by the Google Play Console listing. This version of Wear OS 4 will also introduce the novel “backup” feature, enhancing the usability of the smartwatch. The device is touted to sport a 1.2-inch round OLED display with a resolution of 384×384 pixels and an impressive pixel density of 320ppi, utilizing a Samsung panel for improved visual quality.

In a bold move towards enhanced connectivity, the Pixel Watch 2 is reported to include ultrawide-band (UWB) technology, alongside the customary Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC options. Additionally, the Pixel Watch 2 is poised to feature a slightly larger 306mAh battery, offering a 4 percent boost compared to its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 2022 model, which already claimed a battery life of up to 24 hours.

As tech enthusiasts eagerly await the official launch of the Pixel Watch 2, the smartwatch market is abuzz with excitement over the prospect of an advanced timepiece boasting superior processing power, prolonged battery life, and a host of innovative features.
